Pierre-Eric Bouvier

Meet Pierre-Eric Bouvier and learn about his experience as a VIE at Pernod Ricard Sweden.

 

Tell us about yourself and your background!

Originally I’m from a small town in the Southwest of France, close to Biarritz. But since 2014 Sweden has been my home because of my work at Pernod Ricard. I have a Bachelor in Pharmacy from University of Bordeaux and a Master in Business from Reims Management School with a specialization in Wine and Spirits. I have also done two internships, one with Pernod Ricard Russia and the other one at L’Oréal Paris.  

 

What is the “VIE-program” and why did you apply to it?

It is a program for young European post-graduates hosted by the French government. It gives young professionals a chance to do an internship or take a trainee position with a French company abroad.  I thought it was a fantastic way to start my career! I am really glad I did this because it is very valuable to get the experience of working on an international level. I also think it is important to be exposed to new territories and new ways of working.

 

What did you do during your VIE-time here at Pernod Ricard Sweden?

I started off as a VIE in the Business Development team as a Junior Business Development Manager for twelve months, I then moved on to join the Spirits team. I then got offered the permanent position as Brand Manager French Portfolio, which is my current position. My positions have been very different from each other and that has been a great asset for me.  In the Business Development team I worked with innovation and market insights and in the Spirits team I got the chance to work more with events, brand owner visits and so on.

 

What did you know about Pernod Ricard before you applied?

Pernod Ricard has a very good reputation in the wine and spirits industry so as soon as the industry started to attract me I learned about the company. I was very attracted by the corporate spirit, sense of ethic and the entrepreneurial spirit.

What has been most interesting about your experience so far?

On a personal level I’ve really enjoyed the possibility to get to try two very different type of positions as a VIE, one more analytical and the other one more operational. I think is a good skill-set to have in the future.

What have you learned about work differences in Sweden vs France?

In Sweden, the decision-making process takes a little bit longer because it is seems to be important to reach the best consensus before taking action. I also think that employees with a junior position get more responsibility faster in Sweden.

Man träffar honom i många sammanhang, från vin-provande skribent till engagerad dryckeslärare för sommelierer. Han är en man som alltid varit nyfiken och för honom har det varit logiskt att hela tiden gå vidare och utbilda sig. Addera till. Han har t.o.m. pluggat fyra år i Bordeaux där han tog en licentiatexamen i vin, en tuff utbildning med massor av kvalificerad kunskap. Idag med familj och småbarn försöker han hinna med kurser på kvartsfart. Just nu läser han t ex e-bokdesign på Södertörns Högskola.
